How to Enable IP Address Sharing in GAM to Improve Programmatic Performance

Solution

Overview

Google Ad Manager supports forwarding the full user IP address in bid requests to demand partners. Enabling this feature can improve programmatic performance by allowing DSPs to apply more accurate targeting and bidding strategies.

This article explains what full IP sharing is, why it matters, and how to enable it in your GAM account.

Why Enable Full IP Address Sharing?

When full IP data is included in bid requests, demand partners can:

  • Apply more accurate geo-targeting
  • Better evaluate inventory quality and fraud risk
  • Optimize bidding algorithms more effectively

Publishers who enable this setting often see:

  • Increased bid density
  • Higher eCPMs in open auction and PMP deals
  • Improved fill rates from IP-reliant DSPs

Requirements

Before enabling, ensure the following:

Requirement Details
User Consent Must be obtained where required by GDPR, CCPA, or other regulations
CMP Integration Consent Management Platform should be properly configured
GAM Access Admin-level access to Google Ad Manager

How to Enable Full IP Address Sharing

  1. Sign in to your Google Ad Manager account.
  2. Navigate to Admin → Global Settings → Demand channel settings.
  3. Locate the "Device and browser data sharing" section.
  4. Click on Full IP address.
  5. Toggle the setting to Enabled.
  6. Click Save.

Important: This setting is off by default and applies to Authorized Buyers, Open Bidding, SDK Bidding, and Google demand channels.

What to Monitor After Enabling

Track the following metrics to measure impact:

Metric What to Look For
eCPM Uplift in open auction and PMP clearing prices
Bid Density Increase in bids from DSPs using IP-based signals
Revenue by Geo Performance changes across key markets
Fill Rate Overall delivery and monetization health

Privacy & Compliance Notes

  • Only enable where user consent has been obtained
  • Ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable regulations
  • Review your CMP configuration to confirm consent signals are passed correctly
